I'm scared of tones. Can I manage without a musical ear?
Yes. Tones are a matter of exposure and repetition in context, not talent. You listen to the tutor's natural voice, repeat in real sentences, and replay any word's pronunciation as often as you like.
Do I have to learn characters to hold a conversation?
No. Speaking and listening start immediately, and you can read transcripts in pinyin. Add characters whenever you decide you need them.
What level do I need to start?
Any level from zero to C2. At A1 the tutor speaks slowly in short, simple sentences, helps when you get stuck, and gradually builds up your answers. You can change your level anytime or follow the AI's recommendation after lessons.
