Speak Dutch from minute one
Dutch is the closest major language to English, and it shows: no cases, simple verb endings and a vocabulary that keeps handing you words you already half know. The catch is social, not grammatical. The Dutch switch to English at the first stumble, so people live in the Netherlands for years without ever speaking. In Godoj you talk with Sanne or Daan from lesson one, at your level, and nobody switches. After every conversation AI shows you pronunciation, word order and the words worth keeping.

How it works
Pick, talk, improve.
01Pick a tutor
A male or female voice. Every tutor sounds like a native speaker and adapts to your level, from A1 to C2.
02Talk
A fresh conversation topic every day, or free chat about anything. You speak out loud, whenever you want, no scheduling.
03Get feedback
After every conversation, AI analyzes what you said: fluency, mistakes with corrected forms, and new vocabulary.
Start
Your first sentences in Dutch
Enough to keep the first conversation from stalling. The tutor understands you even when these come out imperfect.
- Hallo
- Hello
- Hoe gaat het?
- How are you?
- Ik begrijp het niet
- I don't understand
- Kun je dat herhalen?
- Could you repeat that?
- Dank je wel
- Thank you
- Hoeveel kost het?
- How much is it?
Six sentences on a screen are not a conversation. Said out loud to a tutor in Dutch, they are.

The hard part of Dutch
Word order. The verb sits second in a main clause but moves to the end of a subordinate one, and a separable verb splits in two around the rest of the sentence. On paper it is a rule; in speech you have to plan the end of the sentence before you start it. Pronunciation adds the throaty g and the ui and eu diphthongs, which no English sound approximates.
What is easier than people expect
No cases, no subjunctive worth the name, verb endings you can learn in an afternoon, and a vocabulary that sits between English and German, so a large share of words are half known before you meet them. Spelling is regular once you know the rule for long and short vowels.
A1 - C2
What a Dutch conversation looks like at each level
At A1 you introduce yourself, order at a cafe, ask for directions and manage numbers, prices and the time in short sentences.
At A2 you talk about your week, describe your work and home, deal with a shop or a doctor's appointment and tell a short story in the past tense.
At B1 you hold a conversation with colleagues, explain a problem to the gemeente, give an opinion with reasons and keep the Dutch from switching to English.
At B2 you argue a point, follow fast conversation at a birthday party, use idiom naturally and get the verb to the end of the clause without thinking about it.
At C1 you present at work, handle humour and understatement, switch register between a job interview and a borrel, and follow regional accents.
At C2 you carry irony and nuance precisely, read the room in Dutch directness and are limited only by what you want to say.
You do not have to guess your own level. The tutor works it out during the first conversation and adjusts speed and vocabulary from there.

FAQ
Questions about learning Dutch
How long does it take to learn Dutch?
Comfortable everyday conversation (roughly CEFR B1) usually takes about 250-350 hours of study, and professional working proficiency about 600-750 hours. Those are the orders of magnitude from the US Foreign Service Institute tables, measured for English-speaking learners, so treat them as a reference point rather than a promise. What moves the number is how many of those hours you spend actually speaking: 10 minutes of conversation a day gets you further than an hour of passive review once a week.
Do I need to learn the writing system before I start speaking Dutch?
No. This language uses the Latin alphabet you already read, so the transcript of your conversation makes sense from day one.
Is Dutch hard to learn?
It is one of the easiest languages for an English speaker. No cases, straightforward verbs and a huge shared vocabulary. The real hurdles are the throaty g, diphthongs like ui and a word order that sends the verb to the end of the clause, and all three are things your mouth learns faster than your eyes do.
Why learn Dutch if everyone in the Netherlands speaks English?
Because in English you stay a guest. Work, the gemeente, your child's school, the doctor and the neighbours all run in Dutch, and the integration exam requires it. Add 24 million speakers across the Netherlands and Belgium, and a few sentences in their language change the whole tone of a conversation.
Which variety of Dutch do the tutors speak?
The tutors stay in one variety throughout: standard Netherlands Dutch (Algemeen Nederlands). Every language has a female and a male voice, so you hear two different timbres and two speaking speeds rather than one recording on repeat.
Can I practise speaking Dutch on my own, without a conversation partner?
That is the whole point of the app. The AI tutor picks up at any hour, with nothing to schedule and nobody to find, and a session can run 5 minutes or half an hour. It does not judge, does not sigh, and you can ask it to repeat something ten times in a row. After the conversation you get an analysis: what went well, where the mistakes were, and which words you were missing.
Is an AI tutor enough to learn Dutch, or do I need a native speaker?
For daily speaking practice AI is enough, and it has one advantage over a person: it is available in the 10 free minutes you actually have. We do not pretend it replaces a teacher, though. A human reads your goal better, runs a longer programme, prepares you for an exam and catches cultural nuance. The healthiest setup is AI every day plus a human every so often, if you can have both.
What level do I need to start?
Any level from zero to C2. At A1 the tutor speaks slowly in short, simple sentences, helps when you get stuck, and gradually builds up your answers. You can change your level anytime or follow the AI's recommendation after lessons.
How much does it cost?
You start free: 10 minutes of conversation over 7 days, no card required. Then the 90-minute plan at $24 (โฌ20) a month, or the 250-minute plan at $48 (โฌ40), up to 3 languages.
