Your personal native speaker 🇵🇹
Speak Portuguese from minute one
Portuguese reads almost like Spanish and sounds like nothing else. On paper it is friendly: Latin script, verbs that follow Romance logic and a vocabulary you half recognise from English, Spanish or French. Out loud, European Portuguese swallows its unstressed vowels, turns s into sh and runs words together, so learners who read well still lose the thread in a Lisbon café. That is why it has to be learned by ear. In Godoj you talk with Inês or Duarte, who speak the Portuguese of Portugal, from lesson one and at your level. After every conversation AI shows you pronunciation, the words you swallowed and the ones worth keeping.

How it works
Pick, talk, improve.
01Pick a tutor
A male or female voice. Every tutor sounds like a native speaker and adapts to your level, from A1 to C2.
02Talk
A fresh conversation topic every day, or free chat about anything. You speak out loud, whenever you want, no scheduling.
03Get feedback
After every conversation, AI analyzes what you said: fluency, mistakes with corrected forms, and new vocabulary.
Start
Your first sentences in Portuguese
Enough to keep the first conversation from stalling. The tutor understands you even when these come out imperfect.
- Olá
- Hello
- Como estás?
- How are you?
- Não percebo
- I don't understand
- Pode repetir, por favor?
- Could you repeat that?
- Obrigado / Obrigada
- Thank you
- Quanto custa?
- How much is it?
Six sentences on a screen are not a conversation. Said out loud to a tutor in Portuguese, they are.

The hard part of European Portuguese
Listening. European Portuguese drops or nearly drops its unstressed vowels, so words shrink by a syllable and whole phrases blur into one. Add nasal vowels and diphthongs (não, mãe, bem), an s that turns into sh at the end of a syllable, and the personal infinitive, a verb form most languages simply do not have.
What is easier than people expect
The Latin alphabet with a handful of accents, verb patterns that follow the same logic as Spanish, Italian or French, and a large vocabulary shared with English through Latin. Word order is familiar, and spelling maps to sound reliably once you know the rule for reduced vowels.
A1 - C2
What a European Portuguese conversation looks like at each level
At A1 you introduce yourself, order a coffee and a pastry, ask for directions and manage numbers, prices and the time in short sentences.
At A2 you talk about your week, describe your work and your flat, deal with a pharmacy or a doctor's appointment and tell a short story in the past tense.
At B1 you hold a conversation with colleagues, explain a problem to a landlord or at the tax office, give an opinion with reasons and follow people who do not slow down for you.
At B2 you argue a point, follow a fast dinner conversation, choose between tu and você without thinking and understand Lisbon speech without asking for repeats.
At C1 you present at work, handle humour and understatement, move between formal and casual registers and follow accents from the north to the Algarve.
At C2 you carry irony and nuance precisely, catch what goes unsaid and are limited only by what you want to say.
You do not have to guess your own level. The tutor works it out during the first conversation and adjusts speed and vocabulary from there.

FAQ
Questions about learning Portuguese
How long does it take to learn Portuguese?
Comfortable everyday conversation (roughly CEFR B1) usually takes about 250-350 hours of study, and professional working proficiency about 600-750 hours. Those are the orders of magnitude from the US Foreign Service Institute tables, measured for English-speaking learners, so treat them as a reference point rather than a promise. What moves the number is how many of those hours you spend actually speaking: 10 minutes of conversation a day gets you further than an hour of passive review once a week.
Do I need to learn the writing system before I start speaking Portuguese?
No. The alphabet is Latin with a few extra characters, and those are mostly a pronunciation question, which you pick up by ear anyway. You can read your conversation transcript from day one.
Is European Portuguese different from Brazilian Portuguese?
Same language, noticeably different sound. European Portuguese reduces unstressed vowels almost to nothing and pronounces s before a consonant as sh, so it sounds faster and more closed. It uses tu with friends where Brazil says você, and estou a fazer where Brazil says estou fazendo. Our tutors speak European Portuguese. In Brazil you will be understood without trouble, just with a Lisbon accent.
How hard is Portuguese to learn?
For an English speaker it is one of the quicker languages: the FSI puts it in its easiest group, next to Spanish and French. The grammar holds few surprises if you know another Romance language. The real work is listening and the nasal vowels in words like não and mãe, and both improve faster by speaking and hearing corrections than by reading tables.
Which variety of Portuguese do the tutors speak?
The tutors stay in one variety throughout: European Portuguese (Portugal). Every language has a female and a male voice, so you hear two different timbres and two speaking speeds rather than one recording on repeat.
Can I practise speaking Portuguese on my own, without a conversation partner?
That is the whole point of the app. The AI tutor picks up at any hour, with nothing to schedule and nobody to find, and a session can run 5 minutes or half an hour. It does not judge, does not sigh, and you can ask it to repeat something ten times in a row. After the conversation you get an analysis: what went well, where the mistakes were, and which words you were missing.
Is an AI tutor enough to learn Portuguese, or do I need a native speaker?
For daily speaking practice AI is enough, and it has one advantage over a person: it is available in the 10 free minutes you actually have. We do not pretend it replaces a teacher, though. A human reads your goal better, runs a longer programme, prepares you for an exam and catches cultural nuance. The healthiest setup is AI every day plus a human every so often, if you can have both.
What level do I need to start?
Any level from zero to C2. At A1 the tutor speaks slowly in short, simple sentences, helps when you get stuck, and gradually builds up your answers. You can change your level anytime or follow the AI's recommendation after lessons.
How much does it cost?
