Your personal native speaker 🇷🇺

Speak Russian from minute one

Russian rewards the ear: once the Cyrillic fog lifts (it takes about a week), the spoken language opens up fast. In Godoj you talk with Yulia or Maksim out loud from lesson one, at your level, and AI analyzes every conversation: pronunciation habits, grammar slips, vocabulary worth keeping.

How it works

Pick, talk, improve.

01

Pick a tutor

A male or female voice. Every tutor sounds like a native speaker and adapts to your level, from A1 to C2.

02

Talk

A fresh conversation topic every day, or free chat about anything. You speak out loud, whenever you want, no scheduling.

03

Get feedback

After every conversation, AI analyzes what you said: fluency, mistakes with corrected forms, and new vocabulary.

Six sentences on a screen are not a conversation. Said out loud to a tutor in Russian, they are.

The hard part of Russian

Six cases, aspect on every verb, and stress that moves inside a word without being marked in writing, so one spelling can be two different words. Soft consonants change meaning and take an ear rather than a rule to master.

What is easier than people expect

Cyrillic takes about a week. Once you know where the stress falls, spelling is largely predictable, there are no articles, and Russian gets a great deal done with very few tenses.

A1 - C2

What a Russian conversation looks like at each level

A1

At A1 you greet people, introduce yourself, shop, use numbers and ask where something is.

A2

At A2 you describe your day, make plans, make a short phone call and tell a story in the past.

B1

At B1 you hold work conversations, explain a problem, give opinions with reasons and follow a speaker at normal speed.

B2

At B2 you handle aspect and case without hesitation, switch register and hold a position in a discussion.

C1

At C1 you present to a room, follow fast speech with moving stress and use verbs of motion the way native speakers do.

C2

At C2 you carry irony and precision, and the language stops being what limits the conversation.

You do not have to guess your own level. The tutor works it out during the first conversation and adjusts speed and vocabulary from there.

FAQ

Questions about learning Russian

How long does it take to learn Russian?

Comfortable everyday conversation (roughly CEFR B1) usually takes about 500-600 hours of study, and professional working proficiency about 1100 hours. Those are the orders of magnitude from the US Foreign Service Institute tables, measured for English-speaking learners, so treat them as a reference point rather than a promise. What moves the number is how many of those hours you spend actually speaking: 10 minutes of conversation a day gets you further than an hour of passive review once a week.

Do I need to learn the writing system before I start speaking Russian?

No. The conversation is spoken, so you start by speaking. Most people read Cyrillic comfortably after a week or two, and transcripts stop looking foreign around the same time.

Do I need to read Cyrillic before I start?

No, speaking starts from the first lesson because the conversation is spoken. It's worth learning Cyrillic in your first weeks to comfortably read transcripts and vocabulary.

Is Russian grammar too hard to learn by talking?

The opposite: cases and verb aspects sink in fastest as heard, used forms in context. The tutor models correct forms naturally, and the post-lesson analysis explains the specific endings that tripped you up.

Which variety of Russian do the tutors speak?

The tutors stay in one variety throughout: standard Russian. Every language has a female and a male voice, so you hear two different timbres and two speaking speeds rather than one recording on repeat.

Can I practise speaking Russian on my own, without a conversation partner?

That is the whole point of the app. The AI tutor picks up at any hour, with nothing to schedule and nobody to find, and a session can run 5 minutes or half an hour. It does not judge, does not sigh, and you can ask it to repeat something ten times in a row. After the conversation you get an analysis: what went well, where the mistakes were, and which words you were missing.

Is an AI tutor enough to learn Russian, or do I need a native speaker?

For daily speaking practice AI is enough, and it has one advantage over a person: it is available in the 10 free minutes you actually have. We do not pretend it replaces a teacher, though. A human reads your goal better, runs a longer programme, prepares you for an exam and catches cultural nuance. The healthiest setup is AI every day plus a human every so often, if you can have both.

What level do I need to start?

Any level from zero to C2. At A1 the tutor speaks slowly in short, simple sentences, helps when you get stuck, and gradually builds up your answers. You can change your level anytime or follow the AI's recommendation after lessons.

How much does it cost?

You start free: 10 minutes of conversation over 7 days, no card required. Then the 90-minute plan at $24 (€20) a month, or the 250-minute plan at $48 (€40), up to 3 languages.
